Sly as the Fox

Each year, several thousand students attend Ball State University. Some go through their college career with nothing on their minds but getting a college degree. Others party every night and drop out within a semester. A chosen few are so adept at balancing their academic and social lives that they achieve high marks from their friends and teachers. Adam Fox is one of these people.

Socializing is what Adam has been about since the day he was born.

“I feel like I came out of the womb talking,” Adam said. “From the moment I was born, it took all my mother’s energy to get me to stop talking.”

Since all he did was talk, Adam decided to go into a career where he could get paid to do so. Majoring in TCOM-news, Adam aspires to be a radio personality. He has already established himself on the Ball State University college radio station. Here’s a look at the life of this wondrous man.

High school Adam attended Center Grove High School on the south side of Indianapolis. He was a catcher on the baseball team, but did not play much.

“I played less than a flute in a drumline,” Adam said. “Last time I saw the field, the Cubs were clinching the pennant.”

Adam focused his attention on his academics in high school, maintaining a 3.9 on a 4.0 scale. Despite his rigorous study schedule, Adam also maintained a social life. Jake Foster, his close friend and college roommate, claims that Adam was the life of all the parties in Greenwood (the town they lived in.)

“When Adam showed up, the party started,” he said. “And when he left, the party might as well have been over.”

While in high school, Adam got addicted to social networking, particularly facebook. He spends hours a day on his facebook, chatting with friends and commenting.

“I like facebook because it says have friends,” Adam jests.

College life Adam spends most of his time in college at “The Base,” which is the nickname for Clevenger Hall first floor. Recently, Adam’s floor was named community of the month for September, a recognition he cherishes.

“We have a lot of great guys on our floor that are contributing to the school,” he said, “and it is nice to have people recognize that.”

The rest of Adam’s time is spent walking around the campus with his new friend, Teddy Sheets.

“Teddy and I must be twins that were separated at birth,” Adam said. “We both love to meet new people and joke about everything we see.”

Radio Adam holds two radio positions at 91.3, the Ball State college radio station. He is the sideline reporter for the women’s volleyball games and a co-host on the baseball talkshow, “Step in the Box with DZ and the Fox.” He loves both jobs.

“It is really awesome to be a reporter for a Division I sports team,” he said. “And my baseball show is a dream come true. Shooting the breeze about the MLB is what I do best, and it’s nice to have an audience listen to my rants.”

With both shows, Adam is a busy man. However, he sees it as a positive.

“I’m not one to be content with sitting in my room and doing nothing,” he said. “The shows make me feel like I’m doing a worthwhile thing for this college.”

To listen to Adam, go to WCRD at 7 on Mondays and Tuesdays. This is where the foundation is laid for what he hopes will be a very successful career.

Tracy Morgan exposes himself

Tracy Morgan joined Twitter a few days ago. Coincidentally, 30 Rock's new season kicks off Thursday and the comedian's new book, I Am the New Black, arrives in stores next week.

Those accustomed to Morgan's off-the-wall public persona may be surprised by his memoir. The same guy who Tweeted "Evil Knievel is my biological father!" a few days ago shares his more serious side in I Am the New Black.

Some sample passages from the introduction:

  • "My life growing up was a twisted Bronx version of The Color Purple."
  • "I've seen so many of the black males I grew up with end up dead or in prison."
  • "Throughout the eighties and into the nineties, my high school friends and cousins were taken down by drug-related violence. My own family was no different. We were torn apart by drugs and AIDS. I lost a lot of role models to that terrible twosome: dirty needles and a disease society didn't understand."
  • Take it from me because I should know: There's a Tracy Morgan on every block in every neighborhood like the one I came from -- that kid who's off-the-wall funny, who takes on characters for any situation, who can entertain you when the s--t is going down. Entertaining people is how he gets through life, and watching him live out loud like that makes your day better. At least he hopes so. That guy was me. That guy is me."
Morgan goes on to mention diabetes, raising children, and a few other topics we'd never hear about on 30 Rock. It's actually refreshing (and he does throw in robot jokes every now and then, so it's still funny).

Morgan is going on a short tour (http://www.randomhouse.com/rhpg/features/tracymorgan/events.php) to promote the book, and he made a trailer, which you can watch on its official site (http://www.randomhouse.com/rhpg/features/tracymorgan/index.php). Look for it in stores Oct. 20.

Ball State football

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Ball State's football team managed a resounding 42-20 victory over instate rival Indiana University at Memorial Stadium Saturday.

"This was a good win for us, but all of our thoughts and prayers right now are with Dante Love," Ball State head coach Brady Hoke says. "Our kids played very hard in the face of adversity, and we are proud to get the win over a Big Ten team. I have a great amount of respect for Coach Lynch and his team was well prepared. Things went our way and we won the game."

Senior wide receiver Dante Love suffered an injury during the first half of Saturday's game and was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Junior running back MiQuale Lewis put the Cardinals up 42-20 with back-to-back touchdowns at the 6:09 mark in the fourth quarter and with 4:18 left in the game. With the touchdowns Lewis set his career high of four rushing touchdowns in a game and this marks his second straight multiple touchdown game. The four touchdowns ties the Ball State single-game school record.
